Child's Play
In this horror film, six-year-old Alex Vincent's must-have "Good Guy" doll, Chucky, is possessed by the soul of dead serial killer Brad Dourif and goes on a wisecracking murder spree to get revenge on the cop (Chris Sarandon) who put him away. A steady stream of standard scares is dragged from a thinly stretched, formula slasher plot, thanks to panache beyond the call of duty from director Tom Holland. Novelty value and great special effects made this dummy run a big hit. Four sequels followed.
